The second iPhone SE (unofficially to distinguish even iPhone SE 2 or iPhone SE 2020 is called) a smartphone the iPhone series from Apple . It was presented on April 15, 2020. It is similar to the iPhone 8 in dimensions and appearance. The hardware essentially corresponds to that of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (apart from the main camera and the front camera) . With this device, Apple fulfilled the wish for a 4.7-inch smartphone with the latest technology. In addition, it is offered at a cheaper price. The SE stands for Special Edition . The 1st generation was presented on March 21, 2016 and, like the current model, had the technology of the current top models, but the design of a previous model and a little less functionality.

The iPhone SE was available for pre-order from April 17, 2020 and has been available since April 24.

design

The design of the second iPhone SE is almost identical to that of the iPhone 8, which appeared in 2017. There are only minor changes such as a centered Apple logo, the omission of the lettering "iPhone" and "Designed by Apple in California", "Assembled in China" (or "Assembled in India") and new colors. The white version now also has a black front. The device is available in black, white and product red .

Technical specifications

size

With a screen diagonal of 120 mm (4.7 inches), the second generation of the iPhone SE is one of the smallest mass-produced smartphones at the time of its market launch. However, it's still twenty percent larger than the first generation SE, which had a 100mm (4-inch) screen diagonal. Since the device has a home button, it is only slightly smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro (5.8 inch display diagonal) despite the significantly smaller display.

hardware

The iPhone SE contains the Apple A13 Bionic System-on-a-Chip (SoC) with an Apple Motion coprocessor (M13 Motion coprocessor) and third generation Neural Engine. This processor is also found in the iPhone 11 (Pro), but only has 3 GB of RAM in the iPhone SE. It is available in three internal memory configurations; 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB. The iPhone SE has the same dust and water resistance rating as the iPhone 8 ( IP67 , dustproof / 30 minutes at 1 m water depth). The smartphone lacks the ultra- broadband hardware (Apple U1 chip) that the iPhone 11 (Pro) has.

Many parts of the iPhone SE come from the iPhone 8 or are compatible with parts from the iPhone 8. These include the display and the cameras.

Display

The iPhone SE has the same Retina HD display as the iPhone 8 (4.7 inches diagonal), with True Tone and a wide color space. It can play HDR10 and Dolby Vision content even though it does not have an HDR-compatible display. It does this by down-converting the HDR content to fit the display, while still getting some improvements in dynamic range, contrast and wide color gamut when compared to SDR . 3D Touch has been replaced by Haptic Touch.

camera

The iPhone SE has a single 12 MP camera on the back, similar to the iPhone 8 and the widescreen camera of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The camera has an f / 1.8 aperture, autofocus, optical image stabilization and a quadruple LED True Tone flash. It is capable of recording 4K video at 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps, 1080p HD video at 30 fps or 60 fps, or 720p HD video at 30 fps. The phone can also take panorama pictures up to 63 MP and is able to take photos in burst mode. Compared to the iPhone 8, the SE's new processor offers support for videos with extended dynamic range of up to 30 fps and stereo recordings. The SE's camera interface adopts "QuickTake" from the iPhone 11 (Pro) models, which allows the user to long-press the shutter button to record a video.

The front camera has 7 MP with an f / 2.2 aperture and autofocus and is able to record 1080p HD video at 30 fps. It also has kinematic video stabilization for 1080p and 720p video.

Both the front and rear cameras of the iPhone SE support portrait mode and portrait lighting. The rear camera is equipped with Smart HDR, but not the front camera. Unlike the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, the iPhone SE doesn't support night mode, which may be due to the fact that it is based on the one-camera system of the iPhone XR .

software

The iPhone SE comes with iOS 13 .
