I Feel Pretty is an American comedy film directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein from 2018. The film was released in American cinemas on April 20, 2018 and in German cinemas on May 10, 2018.

Renee Bennett is a perfectly normal woman, but extremely unhappy with the way she looks. After an accident in which she hit her head, she believes that her appearance has changed and finds herself beautiful. With this increased self-confidence, she got her dream job, met a man and even confidently took part in a bikini competition. This unintentional change does not only have advantages and it leads to a break with her best friends.
Reviews
Filmstarts .de draws parallels to the 2001 film Schwer in love . However, the accident that leads to a change in self-perception is referred to as an “extremely cheap trick”. It is criticized that the lack of consideration of Renee's environment misses the educational claim of the film. The criticism concludes that the only person who has a problem with their character is the protagonist herself.
Die Zeit compares the film with Bridget Jones and describes Renee as a "woman without qualities". Although the “fluffy Hollywood comedy” is not expected to have a “coherent feminist message”, it is annoying to the commentator that the goal of undermining beauty norms is missed and instead reinforced.
Spiegel Online sees several mistakes in reasoning. On the one hand in the fact that Renee is not often looked at and spoken to and that the message is not "Everyone is beautiful". Then the cast of the main character is criticized. Amy Schumer's talent as a comedian is well recognized, but seems silly to the magazine in places. In addition, the storyline is criticized in which the cosmetics line is only advertised by average women on the initiative of Renee and this is celebrated for it. The high-priced products are not questioned in the film, as these are still being promoted by the “really pretty women”.
