geography
location
The Iberg rises in the Sauerland in the north of the Rothaar Mountains, just north of the Sauerland-Rothaar Mountains Nature Park . Its summit is located about 850 m west-southwest of that of Hohenhagen at which a 684.2 m high saddle leads over. About 1.6 km to the north-west is the center of the village of Siedlinghausen , a district of the Winterberg, about 6.3 km (as the crow flies ) south-southeast of the summit, at the confluence of the Nameless stream flowing west of the Iberg into the Neger . Beyond and thus west of the Nameless Valley rises the Meisterstein ( 636.4 m ). The nameless tributary Burmecke flows south past the Iberg, and the Negro tributary Hambkebecke rises to the north .
Natural allocation
The Iberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Nordheller Heights (333.57), with its northwest flank towards Siedlinghausen in the Subunit Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge (333.8 ) falls into the natural area Bödefelder Mulde (333.80).
Mountain lake
A striking remnant from the former slate mining is the mountain lake of the Iberg. In this former open-cast mine , which extends about 250 m west-southwest below the (today's) mountain peak, a lake has formed from rainwater , the water surface of which is 615.1 m above sea level.
Protected areas
The Iberg nature reserve is located on large parts of the Iberg ( CDDA no. 389794; designated 2008; 23 hectares in size). The eastern transition area to the Hohen Hagen is in the Winterberg landscape protection area (CDDA no. 325127; 1994; 75.32 km² ).
Traffic and walking
The Nuttlar – Winterberg railway line and Landesstraße 740 run west past the Iberg between Silbach and Siedlinghausen . The latter crosses the L 742 in Siedlinghausen, which comes from Rehsiepen and runs past the former Siedlinghausen hunting lodge . For example, starting on these roads, the mountain can be hiked on forest paths and paths, among other things. The Winterberger Hochtour leads over the northern flank of the Iberg . The Elberfelder Hütte , a mountain hut of the German Alpine Association, is located on a forest and hiking trail south of the transition area to the Hohen Hagen .
