Popkiller is the second studio album of the German synth pop - duo Wolfsheim .

Creation and artwork

All pieces on the album were written together by the two Wolfsheim members Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt. They also produced the album in collaboration with Carols Perón, and the three of Peron's Nine-O-Nine colleagues Jose Alvarez-Brill and Gento Navaho were at the side of two of them . The album was specially mastered by Perón. Most of the songs were arranged under the direction of Otto Kostka. The album was released under the music label Strange Ways Records and distributed by Indigo . The recordings and productions took place in the following recording studios: Musik Design in Aachen (production) and Perón / Kostka Studio in Grafschaft (mixing and recording).

On the black and white cover of the album - next to the artist name and album title - a drawn face of a man can be seen. This man can be seen again on a vinyl record for Popkiller , together with a woman who is hugging him. The face is exactly the same on both cover pictures, so it can be assumed that the vinyl record contains the complete drawing and the regular album represents a section of it. The drawing was made by Heppner himself. Further pictures were taken at Leisten Photodesign, under the direction of Willi Leisten. The artwork comes from 4 = 1 (Society for the Development of Multimedia Software mbH).

Publication and promotion

The first release of Popkiller took place on October 1, 1993 in Germany, in the same year the album was released across Europe (including Denmark). The album consists of twelve new studio recordings and was released simultaneously on CD and vinyl . To promote the album, Wolfsheim went on the Strange Ways Festival Tour in 1994 the following year .

content

With the exception of Auf ein Wort ... all the lyrics on the album are in English, even the German titled Kaufrausch contains an English text. Musically, the songs move in the realm of dark waves and synth pop . The album consists of twelve newly recorded tracks, one of which was already on a previously released demo album. The song Gates appeared on the first demo album Any But Pretty from 1988. There is a track on this album called No Happy View , this is exactly the same track as the previous debut album No Happy View . This and the piece Faith are purely instrumental pieces . At Tender Days Wolfsheim are supported by the drummer, the band Dark Ruler, Ollie Orange.
