55578 is the only compilation of German synth pop - duo Wolfsheim .
Creation and artwork
With the exception of a cover version, all of the songs in the compilation were written together by the two Wolfsheim members Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt, two in collaboration with Carlos Perón. The album was mastered at Master & Servant in Hamburg, under the direction of Peron. The album was released under the music label Strange Ways Records and distributed by Indigo .
On the black and white cover of the album - in addition to the artist name and album title - an aerial photograph of the Rhine-Hessian community of Wolfsheim from December 20, 1994 can be seen. There is a 24-page booklet for the album , which contains, among other things, various photographs of the duo and a complete discography to date . On the back is the inscription “Wolfsheim did not name itself after the place of the same name in Rhineland-Palatinate , but after the figure from the German translation of ' The Great Gatsby ' by the wanderer F. Scott Fitzgerald . As a suggestion to potential interviewers - write it behind your ears! ”To find. The pictures were taken by Willy Leisten. The artwork comes from Brücke 5, Ulrike Rank and the Neues Leben Berlin publishing house.
Publication and promotion
The initial release of 55,578 took place on 20 February 1995 in Germany. The compilation consists of 13 songs and contains a selection of titles from the years 1987 to 1995. The first 55,578 copies of 55,578 were distributed in connection with the EP Bruder Kosmonaut . This also contains six live recordings that were made at two concerts during the Strange Ways Festival Tour 1994 in Frankfurt am Main ( Batschkapp ) and Hanover (Music Hall).
content
The title of this compilation is based on the postcode of the Rhine-Hessian community Wolfsheim . All lyrics are written in English, only The Sparrows and the Nightingales contains the repetitive German line “Where is the leader who leads me, I'm still waiting”. Musically, the songs move in the realm of dark waves and synth pop . The album consists of 13 tracks, ten of which were found on previous studio albums and EPs. The songs Circles , Real and Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town have been newly recorded for this compilation. The latter is a cover version of the original by Johnny Darrell from 1967. The song Elias was released as a single a year earlier, but is here for the first time on an official Wolfsheim album.
