Closer Still ( English closer to, yet ') is a song of the German synth pop - duo Wolfsheim . The piece is the first single from their third studio album Dreaming Apes .

Creation and artwork

The song was recorded and written by the two Wolfsheim members Peter Heppner and Markus Reinhardt. In collaboration with Jose Alvarez-Brill , the two also produced the single, Lothar Gärtner acted as executive producer. The piece was mastered under the direction of Carlos Perón . The single was released under the music label Strange Ways Records and distributed by Indigo . The recordings were made in The Factory recording studio in Aachen . On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - you can see a piece of furniture floating in the clouds. The photography comes from Alexander Demtschuk and the artwork from Graphische Werken Ottensen.

Publication and promotion

Closer Still was first published on November 20, 1995 in Germany. The single was re-released on February 16, 1996 when the studio album Dreaming Apes was released. In addition to the readioversion, the maxi single includes an extended and instrumental version of Closer Still , as well as the other B-sides Tapir (instrumental) and Now I Fall (factory remix) . The song Tapir cannot be found on any Wolfsheim album to this day. The newly released maxi single was included in the "1st Edition" of Dreaming Apes .

Music video

The music video for Closer Still consists mostly of three scenes that alternate over and over again. On the one hand, the two Wolfsheim members can be seen again and again in front of various background images, singing the song before or in the middle of a laser / light show. On the other hand, a black and white scene of a dark-skinned woman can be seen over and over again . In a third - also black and white - scene, Heppner stands in front of a white wall and sings the song while a video of this woman is projected onto him. The total length of the video is 3:24 minutes. Jose Alvarez-Brill directed and produced.
