Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye (born June 27, 1994 in Oyigbo ) is a long jumper from the Turks and Caicos Islands of Nigerian origin.

Athletic career

Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye gained his first experience in international championships at the 2010 CARIFTA Games in George Town , where he won the silver medal in the high jump in the U17 rankings and finished eighth in the long jump. In 2010 he was sixth in the long jump and tenth in the high jump at the CARIFTA Games in Montego Bay and finished fifth with the 4 x 100 meter relay. At the Commonwealth Youth Games in Douglas he made it to the semi-finals in the 200-meter run and won the bronze medal in the long jump with 7.15 m. In 2012 he finished fifth in the long jump at the CARIFTA Games in Hamilton and won the bronze medal with the relay. At the Central American and Caribbean Junior Championships in San Salvador , he did not cross the starting height in the high jump and won the silver medal behind the Jamaican Clive Pullen in the long jump with 7.18 m .

In 2013 he again won the bronze medal with the relay at the CARIFTA Games in Nassau and this time came fourth in the long jump. At the IAAF World Relays 2014 in the Bahamas , he retired in the first round with the 4 x 200 meter relay. He qualified in the long jump for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, and was eliminated there with 7.47 m in qualification. He was also part of the 4 x 400 meter relay, which was eliminated in the preliminary round with 3: 19.11 min. He then finished ninth in the long jump at the U23 NACAC Championships in Kamloops . In 2015 he won the bronze medal at the NACAC Championships in San José (Costa Rica) with 7.71 m and thus qualified for the first time for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated without a valid jump in the qualification .

In 2016 Otuonye took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland and reached the final there, in which he finished eleventh with 7.40 m. He then won the gold medal at the U23 NACAC championships in San Salvador with 7.88 m. At the IAAF World Relays 2017 he was eliminated again in the preliminary run with the 4 x 200 meter relay, but qualified in the individual competition for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 21.91 s in the first round . In April 2018 he again took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast , where he finished ninth in the long jump and sixth in the 4 x 400 meter relay.

He is a student at Kansas State University in Manhattan.
