Igor Perrig

Igor Alexander Perrig (born June 22, 1964 in Brig ) is a Swiss historian and author who publishes on security policy .

Life

Perrig graduated from the College Spiritus Sanctus in Brig , where he belonged to the Sectio Brigensis student association with the vulgo "Hägar" . He studied history and communication science at the University of Freiburg and received his doctorate in Swiss history under Urs Altermatt in 1994 . At the University of Maryland's School of Public Affairs , he specialized in security policy and international relations . From 1992 to 1993 he worked as a research fellow at the Center for International Security Studies in Maryland. In 2006 he completed the Master of Public Administration course at the University of Bern .

From 1993 to 1994 Perrig worked in the General Secretariat of the North Atlantic Assembly in Brussels, where he dealt in particular with the integration of the Eastern European countries into NATO. From 1994 to 2008 he worked for the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport , a. a. as security adviser to the Chief of Staff and as head of the Partnership for Peace section . From 2008 he was Public Affairs Manager at Swisselectric , and from 2016 to 2017 he worked as an independent consultant in Brig. Perrig is a lieutenant colonel in the Swiss Army .

Perrig is a member of the CVP . In 2016 he ran for the city council of Brig-Glis . He advocates nuclear energy .

Scientific activity

Perrig's dissertation, Intellectual National Defense in the Cold War. The Swiss Reconnaissance Service (SAD) and Heer und Haus, 1945–1963 , Brig 1993, was received several times in research. In it he shows illegal state protection activities of the SAD up to 1957 and outlines the Cold War in a four-phase model developed by him.

From 2000 to 2011 he published articles in the General Swiss Military Journal , including an article on Carl von Clausewitz .
