Imre Csáky (politician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Emerich (Imre) Csáky von Köröszeg and Adorján (born February 16, 1882 in Mindszent , Austria-Hungary ; died May 22, 1961 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife , Spain ) was a Hungarian politician. He was Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Hungary from September to December 1920 .

Life

Csáky von Köröszeg and Adorján belonged to one of the oldest magnate families in Hungary, which was mainly based in the (former) Upper Hungarian counties , especially in Zips county . He was born as the youngest of the seven children of Albin Csáky , who was one of the leading liberal reformists in Hungary. His brother Károly Csáky was Hungary's Minister of Defense between 1923 and 1929.

The memoir

After the collapse of the Horthy regime, he spent several years in prison in Hungary. There he wrote some notes for his memoirs on small scraps of paper and on cut newspaper margins. Later, when he was released, he continued to write, but could not clear up his mess of papers because he could barely see. Then his niece's husband, Heribert Thierry, took over the editing of the notes over many years. The result was a typewritten manuscript with four copies, which were bound in four copies after completion. Marie Csáky edited and edited the book because the text was written in a peculiar old Austrian style.
