In truth: Mord am Engelsgraben ( French Toute la vérité: Meurtre au Fossé des Anges ) is a German crime film by director Miguel Alexandre from 2017. It is the first episode of the ZDF film series In Truth , which takes place in Saarland . The follow-up episode Jette is Dead was broadcast in 2018 and In Truth: The Sea is Still Resting in 2019.

The corpse of the prostitute Nele is found in a forest on the Saar loop . The Saarbrücken police superintendent Judith Mohn and her team are investigating the truck drivers on the German-French border. Evidence is soon found that the killing offense is related to the previously unexplained disappearance of 16-year-old Maria Schäffler nine years earlier. The detective commissioner therefore includes Markus Zerner, the investigator in that case, in the current investigation. The truck driver Erich Kupka is identified as a suspect early on, among other things because of his wife's suspicions. The investigation also focuses on Kurt Mahn, who confesses to the murder of the prostitute Nele in a letter to the police. However, reminder turns out to be mentally ill, involvement in the crime can be excluded. Paul Satzmann, Maria Schäffler's boyfriend at the time, is also under suspicion, just like nine years earlier. Finally, a matryoshka from the possession of Maria Schäffler is found at Erich Kupka, who then confesses to have accidentally run over Maria Schäffler in his truck nine years earlier and to have told the prostitute Nele this story, whereupon he killed her.

The first broadcast of Mord am Engelsgraben on June 9, 2017 was seen by 1.52 million viewers in Germany and achieved an above-average market share of 5.6 percent for Arte ; in France, Meurtre au Fossé des Anges recorded 979,000 viewers and a 4.4 percent market share. On November 18, 2017, the Saarland crime thriller was broadcast for the first time on ZDF and, as the winner of the day, achieved a viewing rate of 20.6 percent with a total of 6.37 million viewers.
