The Internationalismus Buchladen und Verlagsgesellschaft in Hanover is a bookstore committed to internationalism , at the same time a book publisher and an antiquarian bookshop founded in the early 1970s . The company is based at Engelbosteler Damm 4 in the Hanover district of Nordstadt .

history

After the booksellers Henning Appel and Arno Kundlatsch, who comes from the Allgäu , jointly ran the first children's bookstore in Hanover in Linden at the beginning of the 1970s , at that time at the Schwarzer Bär , in connection with an antiquarian bookshop, the two and six other bibliophiles took over the until 1975 in The independent youth center Kornstrasse operated internationalism bookstores and initially relocated them to Königsworther Strasse . There the operating team shrank more and more until the company was relocated to Engelbosteler Damm in 1984, where 270 square meters were still available to them under house number 10 until the lease expired in 2001 . Since moving to the current one (status: 03/2015), with 80 m² of sales area, a much smaller shop at Engelbosteler Damm 4, Kundlatsch has been running the "business that is delivered to the last corner with books" on his own, to relieve the burden with storage at different locations. In the meantime, the Andalusian artist Jorge La Guardia , who runs his studio diagonally across from the bookstore, has affixed the trademark he designed with the letters IB above the shop windows of the bookstore.

With reference to “Germany's most famous librarians ”, Paul Raabe , who had already spoken of the “disappearance of a book culture” in 2004, Arno Kundlatsch , who perceives Amazon and Google as “plague bumps” , explained to the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung the changed handling of books in 2009 Age of the Internet : “Life with books is dying out.” Hardly anyone still has time and space for sophisticated books, “even students are under such pressure that they only read the bare essentials”. At the same time, inherited or simply leftover books would be offered to him by the box every week.

Kundlatsch, who lives with his family in the northern part of the city and who has meanwhile also worked as a book scraper , appraiser and appraiser , has secured the existence of the company , up to now with stalls at the Leipzig and Frankfurt book fairs .
