Irineu Roman CSJ (born August 10, 1958 in Vista Alegre do Prata , Rio Grande do Sul , Brazil ) is a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Santarém .

Life

Irineu Roman entered the religious order of the Josephines of St. Leonardo Murialdo and made Perpetual Profession on January 2, 1988 . On January 1, 1990, he received the sacrament of ordination from the Bishop of Caxias do Sul , Nei Paulo Moretto .

Irineu Roman was initially employed in training the next generation of the Order and worked as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Brasilia from 1995 to 1998 . Since 1999 he has been pastor of the St. Hedwig parish in Belém and most recently Episcopal Vicar for the São João Batista region of the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará.

On January 8, 2014 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Sertei and auxiliary bishop in Belém do Pará . The Archbishop of Belém do Pará, Alberto Taveira Corrêa , donated him episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Caxias do Sul, Alessandro Carmelo Ruffinoni CS , and the Vicar Apostolic of San Miguel de Sucumbíos , Celmo Lazzari CSJ. Pope Francis appointed him the first Archbishop of Santarém on November 6, 2019. The inauguration took place on February 2, 2020.
