The Irish League 1971/72 was the 71st season of the highest Northern Irish football league . Glentoran FC became champions for the 15th time.

The twelve teams played against each other twice on a total of 22 match days. Due to the violent clashes in the Northern Ireland conflict , Derry City withdrew from the league in October 1972. The clubs that qualified for the European Cup had to withdraw their participation for safety reasons.
