Isobutyl isobutyl ester is a chemical compound from the group of carboxylic acid esters .
Occurrence
Isobutyric acid isobutyl ester has been found in hop oil , grapes , apricots , bananas , melons , strawberries , cider , passion fruit , sherry , wine , whiskey , olives , quinces , bay leaves , myrrh , Chinese quinces and chamomile oil .
Extraction and presentation
Isobutyl isobutyl ester can be passed through a catalytic reaction in which vapors of isobutyl alcohol and isobutyric acid are passed under pressure over copper (II) oxide + aluminum oxide , zinc oxide + aluminum oxide or copper (II) oxide + zinc oxide + aluminum oxide at 350 to 400 ° C.
properties
Isobutyl isobutyl ester is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor that is very sparingly soluble in water. The taste and smell are reminiscent of pineapple. At neutral pH (pH 7), the half-life in water is about 9.217 years at 25 ° C. At pH 8, the hydrolysis half-life drops to 337 days.
use
Isobutyl isobutyl ester is mainly used as a solvent , especially for nitrocellulose lacquers and thinners as well as coatings for plastic substrates and high-solid lacquers. Most of the end uses are in coatings (automotive, industrial, wood furniture and graphics). It can also be used as a flavoring . It is also approved as a feed additive.
safety instructions
The vapors of isobutyl isobutyl ester can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point 37 ° C, ignition temperature 432 ° C).
