Iwan Iwanow ( Russian Иван Иванов , English transcription Ivan Ivanov ; born January 3, 1992 in Üschtöbe ) is a Kazakh shot putter and discus thrower .

Career

Ivan Ivanov gained his first international experience at the 2009 World Youth Championships in Bressanone , where he was eliminated from the qualification in both the shot put and discus throw. In the year he finished fifth and sixth at the Junior Asian Championships in Hanoi . Two years later he took part in the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou and was seventh with 17.74 m in the shot put. In 2013 he finished seventh with 18.34 m at the Asian Championships in Pune , as well as at the Asian Championships in Wuhan two years later with 17.78 m. In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 17.38 m in qualification .

In 2017 he won the bronze medal with 19.41 m at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar behind Iranian Ali Samari and Tejinder Pal Singh from India. Then he retired at the Summer Universiade in Taipei with 17.22 m in the qualification. At the beginning of September he won the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat with 1960 m. In 2018 he finished fifth at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran with 18.31 m and won the bronze medal behind Singh and the Chinese Liu Yang at the Asian Games in Jakarta at the end of August with 19.40 m . The following year he won the bronze medal again at the Asian Championships in Doha with 19.09 m, this time behind the Indian Singh and the Chinese Wu Jiaxing . He also qualified for the World Championships there in October, where he was eliminated with 19.73 m in qualification .

From 2011 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2017 and 2019, Ivanov became the Kazakh champion in outdoor shot put and in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018 indoor. He also secured the title in the discus throw in 2013.
