Iwan Wladimirowitsch Chekhovich ( Russian Иван Владимирович оехович ; English transcription: Ivan Vladimirovich Chekhovich ; born January 4, 1999 in Yekaterinburg ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League since April 2018 regularly plays for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League on the position of the left winger .
Career
Chekhovich comes from the junior department of Junost Yekaterinburg from his hometown. The attacker then moved to the Russian capital Moscow , where he was active in the HK Dynamo squad . Between 2014 and 2016 he was there for the U16 and U17 teams of the club as well as the HK MWD Balaschicha, the farm team Dynamos in the junior league Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga (MHL). The election in the CHL Import Draft by the Drakkar de Baie-Comeau from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec in third place in the summer of 2016 attracted the young Russian to North America.
There he played for the Drakkar at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and collected 59 scorer points in 60 appearances in his rookie year . After Chekhovich was selected in the seventh round in the seventh round of the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League in the NHL Entry Draft 2017 , he confirmed the performances from the previous season. He was finally rewarded in April 2018 by the Sharks with a three-year NHL entry contract . In addition, the attacker received an amateur trial contract until the end of the 2017/18 season so that he could make his professional debut in the American Hockey League with the Sharks farm team , the San Jose Barracuda . There he collected eleven points in ten missions. At the beginning of the 2018/19 game year he was sent back to the LHJMQ to the Drakkar de Baie-Comeau to continue playing in the junior division. In the jersey of the Drakkar, he recorded 105 points in 66 games and was the second best scorer in the league, so that he was elected to the LHJMQ Second All-Star Team at the end of the season .
For the 2019/20 season he moved permanently to the San Jose Barracuda in the AHL.
International
Chekhovich represented his home country on numerous occasions in the junior sector. He played at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2015 , the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2016 and the World Junior A Challenge 2016 as well as the U18 World Junior Championships in 2016 in the United States and 2017 in Slovakia . He also collected numerous medals. In addition to winning the silver medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge, he also won bronze medals at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, the World Junior A Challenge and the U18 World Junior Championship in 2017. In the latter, he was also elected to the tournament's All-Star Team after scoring nine points in seven missions.
For the U20 Junior World Cup 2019 in Canada, the Russian was initially called up in his home country's provisional squad, but was ultimately not nominated for the final squad due to a back injury diagnosed shortly before the start of the tournament.
