history

The Jänschwalde-Ost prefabricated housing estate was built in 1952 as a housing estate for the professional soldiers of the National People's Army stationed at the nearby Cottbus-Drewitz military airport . The place name refers to the location of the settlement. In 1955 the place was connected to the Cottbus – Guben railway line with a train station. In the following year the construction of a polytechnic high school was started. This was opened in January 1958 and from 1960 was named Max-Malinsky-Oberschule .

After the fall of the Wall , the buildings were initially maintained by the Bundeswehr , after the military use of the barracks on December 31, 1995, the buildings were taken over by the Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks . At that time, around 1,500 soldiers were living with their families in the village, and the number of residents in Jänschwalde-Ost collapsed when people moved away. In the summer of 1999 the comprehensive school had to close due to insufficient student numbers. Today there is a kindergarten and a primary school in Jänschwalde-Ost , each offering the Witaj program.

Jänschwalde-Ost initially belonged as a district to the municipality of Jänschwalde and was located in the Guben district in the Cottbus district . After the fall of the Wall, the settlement was initially in the Guben district in Brandenburg, where it joined the Jänschwalde office on December 28, 1992 as part of the Jänschwalde municipality . Since the district reform in December 1993, Jänschwalde-Ost has belonged to the Spree-Neisse district . On October 26, 2003, Jänschwalde, Drewitz and Grießen were merged to form the new Jänschwalde community . Since then, the place has been administered by the Peitz Office.
