Jörn W. Wilsing

Jörn W. Wilsing (born October 25, 1940 in Hamm ; † September 19, 2010 in Stuttgart ) was a German opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Wilsing first began training as an industrial clerk, but then studied singing at the Cologne University of Music . Further studies followed from 1962–1963 at the Salzburg Mozarteum and the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich . In 1964 he made his debut as an opera singer at the Landestheater Coburg with the role of Heerrufers in Wagner's romantic opera Lohengrin . He had permanent engagements at the Karlsruhe State Theater (including Papageno in Die Zauberflöte in 1975 ; partner: Francisco Araiza ), at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and, since 1977, at the Stuttgart State Opera . In Stuttgart he was part of the permanent ensemble up to and including the 2005/2006 season.

Wilsing sang an extensive repertoire in Stuttgart, which mainly included the lyric baritone subject. In the course of his career he interpreted roles such as Figaro in The Barber of Seville , Father Germont in La traviata , Trinity Moses in the rise and fall of the city of Mahagonny and Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg . In later years he also took on numerous smaller roles and character roles. In Stuttgart he sang Melot in Tristan und Isolde (among others 1981 and 1985), Donner in Das Rheingold (1986/1987), Fürst Ottokar in Der Freischütz , Lord Tristan Mickleford in Martha (1986 in the premiere of the famous Loriot - Staging; partner: Rüdiger Wohlers ), King Bobèche in Ritter Blaubart (1996), Ford in Falstaff (1996), the manager in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk (1998) and the prison director Frank in the operetta Die Fledermaus (2000). One of his last roles there was the steward Pancratius in the comic opera Der Wildschütz in 2005 . In his last season in Stuttgart 2005/2006 he also sang Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly .

He has appeared at the Cologne Opera , the Opera House Dortmund , at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein , the Nuremberg Opera House , at the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz (including 1980 as Reinhart at the opera Duke tomboy of Siegfried Wagner ), at the Theater Basel and at the Komische Oper Berlin . In 1973 he sang Arbace in Mozart's opera Idomeneo at the Salzburg Festival .

Wilsing also emerged extensively as a concert singer with an extensive repertoire that ranged from baroque music to contemporary music of the 20th century.

He also made several television appearances. In 1975 he worked alongside Teresa Stratas and René Kollo in a television adaptation of the opera The Bartered Bride . In 1978 he was a guest of the entertainer Heinz Schenk in his show Zum Blauen Bock ; there he sang the Chianti song by Gerhard Winkler . Wilsing also appeared on March 15, 1980 in Wiesbaden as a guest on the ARD Saturday evening show One will win .

Wilsing's voice is documented on numerous sound carriers. In addition to complete opera recordings, there are also several operetta excerpts ( Die Fledermaus , Gasparone , Boccaccio ).

Wilsing died after a long illness.
