The Jösigk is a nature reserve in the town of Gräfenhainichen in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0131 is 66.99  hectares in size. It is from the conservation area surrounded "Dübener Heide". The area has been under protection since May 1, 1961 (date of regulation: March 30, 1961). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Wittenberg district.

The nature reserve is located southeast of Graefenhainichen in the Dübener Heide nature park . It protects an earlier scrub forest that was stagnant in a lowland area on boggy locations . In the former area near groundwater in places could fen developed. The peat was stung in earlier times for heating. Due to the lowering of the groundwater for the Gröbern open-cast lignite mine located west of the Jösigk and closed in 1993 , former brooks, the Breitewitz mill pond and the reservoir in the Jösigk area have dried up. The remaining open pit of the former open-cast lignite mine was flooded from July 2003 to 2007, creating the Gröberner See . Due to the flooding, the species-rich and typical lowland areas in Jösigk should develop again in the long term.

The forest used to be characterized by bird cherry and ash forest. From this, however, only a loose network of old trees of the species black alder , common ash and sycamore maple is preserved. In addition, the hornbeam, which grows in drier locations, spreads . In the north-west of the area a star chickweed - pedunculate oak-hornbeam forest grows , in the north-east a pine forest interspersed with silver birch and pedunculate oak . As part of regeneration measures, small areas of English oak, hornbeam and winter linden were planted.

The shrub layer of the former break forest is dominated by common hazelnut . In the herb layer, wood twigs and occasional swamp sedge and common water dost grow . The stone berries grow here, unique in the Düben Heath . In the oak-hornbeam forest, bracken , hornbeam wheat and whitish hornbeam grow in the herb layer . Bracken and pipegrass settle in the pine forests .

The Jösigk has a high proportion of dead wood . The forest area is rich in red deer and wild boar . It also offers a suitable habitat for a species-rich bird world. So here are black , non-ferrous and lesser spotted woodpecker , woodcock , Dove , Cuckoo , Mistle Thrush and marsh , willow and Schwanzmeise home. There are around 13 species of large mushrooms and 35 types of phytopathogenic micro- fungi in the nature reserve .

The forest area is almost completely surrounded by other forests. In places, smaller grassland areas and clearings are connected .
