Jacques Faure

Jacques Faure (born March 2, 1904 in Bordeaux , † April 9, 1988 in Paris ) was a French général de brigade and skier.

Sporting successes

Faure was a member of the Chasseurs alpins and at the Olympic Winter Games in 1936 as an officer team captain of the French team in the demonstration competition military patrol , which achieved sixth place.

Military uses

Second World War

During the Second World War he was the leader of a ski reconnaissance train from 1939 to 1940 and then an attaché in the General Staff of General Émile Béthouart in Narvik, Norway . At this point he already had the rank of Capitaine . After the second armistice of Compiègne he was first transferred to London and then from General Charles de Gaulle back to France to the military school Saint-Cyr . He was a co-founder of Jeunesse et Montagne (JM), an alpine youth sports organization of the Armée de l'Air , founded in 1940 . In autumn 1944 he was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in command of the 1st Paratrooper Regiment (1er RCP), which was deployed in the Vosges during the war .

After the war, he initially served in the French General Staff. In 1946 he was appointed Colonel in command of the Groupement Aéroporté of the 25th Airborne Infantry Division (25ème Division d'Infanterie Aéroporté). From 1952 to 1953 he served as military governor of Vienna in occupied Austria , then on the staff of the AFCENT in Fontainebleau . From 1954 to 1956 he was commander of the École de Haute Montagne (EHM) in Chamonix and was the first president of the Commission Armées Jeunesse (CAJ), which was officially founded in 1955 by the French Defense Minister .

Algerian war

During the Algerian War he was General z. b. V. at the commander of the 27th Alpine Infantry Division (27th Division d'Infanterie alpine) in Kabylia and Chief of Staff of the French Army Corps Command in Algiers . In Algeria he was planning a coup d'état against the French government in North Africa, which would lead to the arrest of Governor General Robert Lacoste as part of his inspection tour and General Raoul Salan to be proclaimed military and civil governor of Algeria. He communicated his intention to his friend Paul Teitgen . The plan was not implemented, the plan was betrayed, Faure was arrested in December 1956, transferred to Paris and sentenced to 30 days ' arrest in the barracks of La Courneuve in January 1957 . As the interim commander of the 27th Division, he was one of the main participants in the subsequent coup and was sentenced to ten years in prison in 1961, although he was himself in Paris at the time of its implementation. In 1966 he was pardoned and released from prison. In 1982, when he was 77 years old, he was politically rehabilitated along with other coup participants , and in 1986 he became an honorary member of the Secours de France .
