Jacques Moïse Eugène Noyer (born April 17, 1927 in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage , Département Pas-de-Calais ; † June 2, 2020 ibid) was a French clergyman , theologian and Roman Catholic bishop of Amiens .

Life

Jacques Noyer was the son of a family that ran a laundry in Le Touquet. He first studied literature at the University of Lille , then philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary in Arras and from 1950 to 1952 at the Pontifical Gregorian University . He was ordained a priest on July 2, 1950 . He was a priest in Boulogne-sur-Mer and then pastor of the parish of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. From 1952 to 1963 he was professor of philosophy at the institution Haffreingue de Boulogne-sur-Mer . From 1963 to 1970 he held the office of rector of the seminary in the diocese of Arras . He then was Episcopal Vicar for Education until 1976. From 1976 to 1987 he was dean in his hometown Le Touquet-Paris-Plage.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Amiens on October 31, 1987 . The episcopal consecration in the cathedral of Amiens donated the bishop of Arras, Henri Derouet , on December 13th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Jacques Ménager , Archbishop of Reims , and Gérard Huyghe , Bishop Emeritus of Arras.

As part of the Episcopal Conference of France, Noyer was president of the Episcopal Committee for Tourism and Leisure from 1994 to 2003. He was also a member of the Pontifical Council for Pastoral Care for Migrants and People on the Move from 1995 to 2004 .

On March 10, 2003, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age. Jacques Noyer died in June 2020 at the age of 93 as a result of an operation in his hometown of Le Touquet. He was a member of the Société académique du Touquet-Paris-Plage and since 1993 Knight of the Legion of Honor.
