Jake Wightman (born July 11, 1994 in Nottingham ) is a British middle -distance runner who specializes in the 1,500 meter distance .
Athletic career
Jake Wightman gained his first experience at international championships at the Junior European Championships 2013 in Rieti , where he won the gold medal over 1500 meters in 3: 44.14 minutes. In 2014 he first took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where he was eliminated in the first round over 1500 meters. Two years later he took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam , where he came seventh in the 1500 meter final in 3: 47.68 minutes.
In 2017 he took part in the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated from the semifinals in 3: 41.79 minutes . In 2018 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where he finished sixth in the final. In April he started again at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and won the bronze medal over 1500 meters in 3: 35.97 minutes. Over 800 meters he finished fourth in 1: 45.82 minutes. At the beginning of August he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Berlin in 3: 38.25 minutes in the final behind the Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen and the Poland Marcin Lewandowski .
In 2018 Wightman became British indoor champion over 1500 meters. He is a graduate of Loughborough University . His mother, Susan Wightman, known by the name Tooby, is a former long distance runner and his aunt Angela Tooby is a former athlete.
