Jan Gehler

Jan Gehler (* 1983 in Gera ) is a German theater director.

Life

Jan Gehler studied scenic arts from 2003 to 2009 at the University of Hildesheim . During this time he played and staged in several independent groups, including in 2006 Thomas Freyer's separatists invited him to the directing festival Körber Studio Junge Regie with his workshop production.

After graduating, he worked for two years as assistant director at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden , where he staged the world premiere of Wolfgang Herrndorf's novel Tschick in 2011 . Further work has taken him to the Volkstheater in Munich , the Maxim-Gorki-Theater in Berlin, the Freiburg Theater , the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Stuttgart State Theater .

From 2013 to 2016 Jan Gehler was in-house director at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden . He has been working as a freelance director since the 2016/2017 season.

Awards

His world premiere of Tschick based on the novel by Wolfgang Herrndorf (stage version: Robert Koall ) was invited to the “ Heidelberger Stückemarkt ” and the “ Radikal jung ” theater festival in Munich in 2012 , where it won the 2nd audience award. In addition, the production was awarded the Günther Rühle Prize of the city of Bensheim as part of the “Young Actor Week” festival and a nomination for the renowned “ Der Faust ” theater award in the children's and youth theater direction.

The world premiere of Dirk Lauckes Furcht und Ekel. In 2015, the private lives of happy people were invited to the “ 40th Mülheim Theater Days ”.
