Jan Schalauske (born December 31, 1980 in Lüneburg ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). Since 2014 he has been one of the two state chairmen of Die Linke in Hesse and a member of the Hessian state parliament since April 16, 2017 .

education and profession

In 2002, Schalauske completed a degree in political science at the University of Marburg , which he graduated in 2009 with a diploma in political science. From 2006 to 2017 he worked as a political scientist for the Bundestag member Wolfgang Gehrcke .

Since 2005 he has been involved in the party Die Linke . From 2009 to 2013 he worked as district chairman of the party Die Linke. Marburg-Biedenkopf. Since the end of 2014 he has been the state chairman of the Die Linke party. in Hesse, previously he had been a member of the state board since 2008. In 2011 he was elected to the city council for the Marburg Left and since then has worked on the main and finance committee. He has been chairman of the parliamentary group since the local elections in 2016 . From 2011 to 2016 he was chairman of the election preparation committee.

In the Mayor election in Marburg 2015 , Schalauske received 9.8 percent of the votes as a candidate of the Marburg Left and surprisingly landed in third place, ahead of the traditionally strong Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party in the university town .

In the Hessian state elections in 2008 , 2009 , 2013 and 2018 , Schalauske ran as a direct candidate in the “Marburg-Biedenkopf II” constituency and on the state list of the party Die Linke. On April 16, he then moved to the Hessian state parliament as the successor to Member of Parliament Willi van Ooyen , in which he a. a. Is a member of the European Budget and National Debt Committee. In 2018 he was the top candidate of the party Die Linke together with Janine Wissler and was re-elected as a member of parliament. He is deputy chairman of his group.

Memberships

Schalauske is a member of ver.di , Attac , VVN-BdA and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Hessen. He organizes the program of the Rosa Luxemburg Club Marburg.
