Katrin Werner (born May 25, 1973 in Berlin ) is a German politician of the Die Linke party .

Political career

Before founding the party Die Linke , Werner was a member of the two predecessor parties : the Party of Democratic Socialism (PDS) (since 2005) and the Electoral Alternative Social Justice (WASG) (since 2006). She is a member of the ver.di union .

After the Bundestag elections on September 27, 2009, she moved into the German Bundestag for the first time and is part of it in the 17th electoral term . She was a direct candidate in constituency 204 and got 8.6 percent of the first votes. She made her entry into the Bundestag at number 3 on the state list of her party in Rhineland-Palatinate . There she also served as deputy state chairwoman until the party congress in November 2010. Since August 2009 she has been a member of the Trier City Council as a successor . She sees children's rights and labor market policy as focal points of her political work. On March 8, 2010 she resigned due to personal differences with her parliamentary group colleague Dr. Johannes Verbeek from the Trier Left Party's city council group, but kept her mandate. On March 19, 2010 Werner announced in the regional press that he wanted to found another parliamentary group in the Trier city council with Verbeek. In July 2010 she was re-elected as district chairwoman. Since November 24, 2012 she has been a member of the four-member spokesman's council of LINKEN Rhineland-Palatinate .

Since January 2017 she has been a member of the Federal Council of Spokespersons of the Socialist Left .

In the 17th electoral term, Werner was a member of the Human Rights Committee of the German Bundestag. In February 2010 she initiated a minor request for a clear statement by the federal government on the genocide of the Armenians . She commented on the Federal Government's response as “fleeing political responsibility”. The attitude of the federal government testifies to the oblivion of history and political irresponsibility.

In the 2013 federal election , Werner was a direct candidate in the Trier constituency . She got 5.5 percent of the first votes. It moved back into the Bundestag via second place on the state list. There she was disability policy spokeswoman for the Left Party in the Bundestag .

In the 2017 Bundestag election , she won 6.6% of the first votes in electoral district 203 - Trier and again moved into the Bundestag at number 2 on the list.

In the 19th Bundestag , she is the spokeswoman for her parliamentary group for family and senior citizens policy and for civic engagement. She is a full member of the Committee for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and of the “Civic Engagement” subcommittee, of which Werner is deputy chairwoman. She is also the secretary of the Bundestag and a deputy member of the Children's Commission .

Private

Werner grew up near Pasewalk , her parents worked for the National People's Army . After the reunification of Germany, she completed an apprenticeship as a retail saleswoman in Birkenfeld . She has lived in Trier since 2003. Your highest school leaving certificate is the Abitur . She is not married and has a daughter. Her hobby is the game of chess .
