Jasny ( Russian Ясный ) is a town with 17,363 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the far east of the Orenburg Oblast in the Russian Federation . Jasny is about 500 km from the regional capital Orenburg . The name of the city means bright, clear or light in Russian.

history

Entrance

The city was founded in 1961 as the location of the "Kijembajewski Mining and Processing Combine " (Russian Киембаевский горнообогатительный комбинат ). The company still exists today and is one of the city's main employers. There is asbestos mined by open pit and processed.

Jasny received town charter in 1979. During the Soviet era, the population grew rapidly, from 500 in 1959 to 27,500 in 1992. Since then, the population has been falling gradually.

Economy and Transport

Economically, the city lives mainly from asbestos mining. In addition to the Kiembajewski mining and processing combine, there is also Orenburg asbestos , a building materials factory, and companies in the food industry.

A small branch of the railway connects the city to the city of Orsk , about 90 km from Jasny.

Attractions

In the vicinity of the city is the Kamennoje Lake (in German Steinsee), the lake floor of which is made of granite .

Missile base

The Dombarowski base of the Strategic Missile Forces (RWSN) of the Russian armed forces with the associated closed settlement Komarowski (former code name Dombarowski-3 ) is located near the town of Jasny . To base includes 30 west and north of the city distributed missile silos for R-36M - intercontinental ballistic missiles . From there, an R-36M2 missile was first launched on December 22, 2004. The base is also used commercially under the name Kosmodrom Jasny . The first satellite launch took place on July 12, 2006, when a Dnepr-1 rocket successfully launched the American Genesis 1 satellite .
