history

The city was laid out from 1933 with the construction of a copper ore mining combine. Since the beginning of the 20th century was here on the Trans-Aral Railway a turnout , which is why the village originally simply passing place no. 10 ( Разъезд № 10 ) was called. The name Mednogorsk , chosen later, is based on the mining industry and means something like "copper mining town".

Initially, today's Mednogorsk consisted of several workers' settlements from the combine that was under construction . After this was completed in 1939, the settlements were officially united to form the city of Mednogorsk.

During the Second World War , the production facilities of the Tula armaments plant were relocated from Tula to the vicinity of Mednogorsk, which was in the hinterland of the Soviet Union that was not occupied by the Germans. During this time, Mednogorsk was an important production facility for weapons that were supplied to the Red Army.
