Nowoorsk ( Russian Новоо́рск ) is a settlement (possjolok) in Orenburg Oblast in Russia with 11,295 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 270 km as the crow flies east-south-east of the Orenburg oblast administrative center and a good 30 km northeast of the city ​​of Orsk . It is located on the right bank of the Bolshoi Kumak (Great Kumak), which flows into the Urals from the left near Orsk .

Nowoorsk is the administrative center of Nowoorski Rajons and the seat of the rural community (selskoje posselenije) Nowoorski possowet, which also includes the settlements Granitny (10 km northeast) and at the railway station 216 km (12 km east-northeast).

history

The place was created 1835-1836 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Orsk fortress as a Cossack - Stanitsa and was referred to as such as Stanitsa Novoorskaya . The name, which was also spelled Novo-Orsk until the middle of the 20th century , stands for "New Orsk".

In 1935 Nowoorsk became the administrative seat of a Rajons. In connection with the construction of the thermal power station Iriklinskaja GRES at today's settlement Energetik , 40 km to the north, from June 1962, the place received urban-type settlement status in 1961 , which it retained until 1999.

Nowoorsk is the Orsk - Kartaly (-  Chelyabinsk ) railway line , which was finally opened in 1930 and electrified since 1968 , after provisional commissioning towards the end of the First World War and destruction in the Russian Civil War , at 362 km from Orenburg. The station is located in a separate district about 4 km southwest of the town center. From there a freight connection line leads to the Iriklinskaja GRES power plant .

The regional road 53K-2101 runs through the settlement, which follows the railway line from Orsk in the direction of the neighboring Chelyabinsk Oblast and continues there via Kartaly to Troitsk . In Nowoorsk subordinate roads branch off to Energetik, to the neighboring Rajonzentrum Adamowka to the east and to the town of Gai, which is almost 40 km to the west .
