Jaume Medina i Casanovas (born April 6, 1949 in Vic ) is a Catalan philologist , Latinist , writer , translator and poet .

Life

Academic resume

He attended high school from his birthplace. In 1972 he graduated from the University of Barcelona in Classical Philology . In 1976 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on The Classical Rhythms in Catalan Poetry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona . He has been teaching Latin studies at this university since 1972. In 2009 he became a professor.

research

His research is particularly related to philology. He has studied the Latin language and literature of all time. His specialties are the research of vulgar, late, medieval and humanistic Latin, along with classical rhetoric , verse theory and style . He has also done research on Roman thought and civilization. He has participated in various Latin introductory courses. He has also conducted many doctoral courses. He has collaborated on many research projects. He has become director from a research project whose main purpose is the publication of Ramon Llull's Latin works . As a researcher, he has published more than three hundred studies on Latin studies (language and literature), classical tradition and Catalan studies (language and literature). He has given various courses, seminars and conferences on ancient and modern literature. He was the founder of the Catalan Society of Classical Studies (1979). In 1984 he was also the coordinator of the Carles Riba Symposium . He is a member of the editorial team of the Bernat Metge Foundation . He has also contributed to the history of Catalan literature in Riquer-Comas-Molas.

His diverse translations from Latin into Catalan have been published in the collections of Textos Filosòfics ('Philosophical Texts'), Clàssics del Cristianisme ('Classics of Christianity') and the Bernat Metge Foundation . He collaborated with the Raimundus Lullus Institute at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (Germany) for the edition of Ramon Llull's Latin works . He has also published in the collection of Corpus Christianorum, Continuatio Mediaeualis , published in Turnhout ( Belgium ) by Brepols-Verlag.

His articles and studies have appeared in many research and literary journals. He can also be highlighted as a literary creator. He belonged to the poetic 1970 generation . He had also participated in the creation of the poetry collections Llibres del Mall and Ausiàs March 1973, where he published his first poetry books. He has also written a few literary reviews and essays. He has also written a play and a novel. His translations by ancient and modern authors have also had much success and expansion.
