Jekaterina Igorewna "Katja" Tkachenko ( Russian Екатери́на И́горевна Ткаче́нко ; at the FIS after an English transcription Ekaterina Tkachenko ; born March 7, 1995 in Harare , Zimbabwe ) is a Russian ski racer . She specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

Katja Tkachenko was born in Harare in 1995 . After attending an English school in Moscow, she attended the Stams ski school until 2014 . She then studied at the Russian Academy of Economics and Public Service under the President of the Russian Federation until 2016 . Since 2016 she has been doing a master's degree at the University of Maribor . In addition to her education, she lives in Moscow . She is fluent in English , German , French and Slovenian .

At the age of 15 she competed in her first FIS races . In January 2012 she took part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck , where she competed in all disciplines except downhill. In the slalom she won the bronze medal after she had already achieved top 10 results in super combined and giant slalom. At her first start in a junior world championship she finished 21st in the slalom in Roccaraso . In three other participations, she achieved eighth place in the slalom of Sochi as the best result in 2016 . In January 2014 she made her European Cup debut in Kirchberg , but has not yet achieved any top placements. So far, she has achieved significantly better results in the Far East Cup , in which, after her fourth win in 2016/17, she finished fifth in the overall ranking and third in the slalom ranking.

Tkachenko made her World Cup debut on November 12, 2016 in the Levi slalom . She was able to score for the first time in the following January with rank 28 in Flachau . She finished her first world championship in St. Moritz with a 29th slalom rank. With a 26th place in Zagreb , a new personal best, she traveled to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and classified 32nd in the slalom. With the Russian team she finished ninth place. To date, Katja Tkachenko has been the Russian national champion three times, twice in her favorite discipline, slalom (2015 and 2017) and once in giant slalom (2015).
