Jens Georg Bachmann

Jens Georg Bachmann (born June 25, 1972 in Berlin ) is a German conductor and artistic director .

Professional background

After studying conducting and violin at the “Hanns Eisler” University of Music Berlin (HfM) (from 1993 to 1997), Jens Georg Bachmann studied at the Juilliard School in New York (1997 to 1999) with Otto-Werner Mueller . Afterwards, James Levine appointed him his musical assistant with the Munich Philharmonic and later (2002) with the Verbier Festival Orchestra at the Swiss Verbier Festival . Bachmann was also Deputy Chief Conductor of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra (2001 to 2003) and Principal Conductor of the Texas Chamber Orchestra from 2003 to 2004 . Bachmann was elected Assistant Conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2004, with whom he made his debut in July 2005 (the soloist was Pinchas Zukerman ). When James Levine suffered a stage accident on March 1, 2006 in Boston , Bachmann took over the remaining subscription concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra with great success.

In January 2007 Bachmann conducted The Magic Flute ( WA Mozart , with English libretto) his successful debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he conducted Lucia di Lammermoor in October 2007 and Der Rosenkavalier in 2009 . For the 2007/2008 season Christoph von Dohnányi appointed him as his musical assistant at the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg , which Bachmann conducted in various concert series and radio recordings. Bachmann ended his assistantship in mid-2009. From summer 2009 to 2012, Bachmann was Music Director of the Crested Butte Music Festival in Colorado .

Since the 2011/12 season, Bachmann has also given lectureships and guest concerts at New York University , Manhattan School of Music , the State University of New York at Stony Brook , the Lübeck University of Music and the European University of Cyprus .

Concert conducting took him alongside the Boston Symphony Orchestra (July 2005, October 2005, March 2006, July 2007) to the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra (October 2005, March 2006 and January 2007, June 2008), the NDR Sinfonieorchester / NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester ( January, May and July 2008, February 2009, January 2010), the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover (June 2013, July 2014, May 2016), the Konzerthausorchester Berlin (January 1997, February 1998, January 2000), as well as the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (November 2007), the Gävle Symphony Orchestra ( October 2010), Florida Orchestra (November 2010), the ERT Radio Symphony Orchestra in Athens (May 2018) and the Thessaloniki City Symphony Orchestra (November 2018).

With the 2017/2018 season, Bachmann was appointed Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra , the National Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Cyprus . With this he also took over the musical direction of the opera performances of the Pafos Aphrodite Festival Cyprus in Paphos .

Bachmann directed performances at the Komische Oper Berlin ( Two Berliners in Paris ), the Deutsche Oper am Rhein ( Swan Lake ), the State Opera Nuremberg ( Werther and Liebestrank / L'elisir d'amore ), the State Opera Stuttgart ( Die Zauberflöte and Der Freischütz ) , at the Theater Aachen ( Fidelio ), the Metropolitan Opera ( The Magic Flute ; Lucia di Lammermoor ; Der Rosenkavalier ) and at the Royal Swedish National Opera ( Figaro's wedding ).
