Jens Klimek
Jens Klimek (born April 19, 1984 in Magdeburg ) is a German musician , composer and choir director .

Youth and education
Jens Klimek attended the State High School for Music in Wernigerode from 1996 to 2003 and took composition lessons with Bernhard Schneyer and Thomas Buchholz ( Halle (Saale) ). He then studied musicology and English philology at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg from 2004-2010 .
Artistic work
During his training at the Landesgymnasium für Musik Wernigerode he took over the direction of the student chamber orchestra and sang in the radio youth choir Wernigerode from 2000-2003 . As early as 1999 he created his first opera sketches and orchestral works , which were performed at the theater in Halberstadt . During his studies, Klimek led the Cantamus choir in Magdeburg, volunteered with inmates at the Magdeburg prison on a choir project and took part in the composition workshops with Annette Schlünz and Helmut Lachenmann . He has been a member of the German Tonkünstlerverband , the German Composers Association and board member of the Saxon-Anhalt composer class since 2006 . Since August 2010 he has been employed as a music lecturer at the Hegel-Gymnasium Magdeburg and at the Landesgymnasium für Musik Wernigerode . Since 2015 he has been working exclusively at the State High School for Music Wernigerode . His compositions have been published by the music publishers Bernhard Hayo , Breitkopf & Härtel and Ferrimontana .

Awards (selection)
- 2006: 2nd prize in the composition competition of the German Music Council with The Garden of Love based on William Blake - world premiere : Oldenburger Kammerchor in Kiel.
- 2008: 1st prize (Zlatni lipin cvijet) at the composition competition at the 1st International Male Chamber Choir Competition Lipanjski zvuci in Petrinja ( Central Croatia ) with three madrigals .
- 2011: 2nd prize in the composition competition of the A Cappella Week in Hanover with Via Dolorosa .
- 2012: First inclusion of the choral works Three Madrigals and Le clocher chante in the literature recommendations of the German Choir Competition .
- 2012: Prize (for the best contribution) of the Radamisto Prize for Ombra cara - the world premiere took place at the Hallische Musiktage 2012.
- 2014: 1st prize in the youth choir category at the Styria Cantat composition competition.
- 2020: 1st prize at the 15th International Composition Competition for Contemporary Sacred Music of the European Church Music Festival Schwäbisch Gmünd.
