The Eckerö is a ferry of the Eckerö Linjen , which has been connecting the ports of Grisslehamn and Eckerö in Åland since February 15, 2006 . Before that, the ship was used from 1979 to 2005 as Jens Kofoed in the ferry service to the island of Bornholm .

history

In November 1976 Bornholmstrafikken commissioned two identical ferries from Aalborg Værft A / S. The first new building, the Povl Anker , has been operating to Bornholm since the end of 1978. The second ship was the Jens Kofoed , named after the Bornholm freedom fighter of the same name , delivered to Bornholmstraffiken on April 1, 1979 and sailed under the Danish flag with her home port of Rønne . It was put into service on the Copenhagen ↔ Rønne ↔ Ystad routes . At the beginning of 2001 the ferry on the Gdańska Stocznia "Remontowa" in Danzig was rebuilt and from March 2001 it was used again on the routes Copenhagen ↔ Rønne ↔ Ystad. The Copenhagen station was then replaced on October 1, 2004 by the more convenient ferry port of Køge .

After the new RoPax Hammerodde and Dueodde were commissioned, which was Jens Kofoed on 29 October 2004 for 6.375 million euros to the Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö sold and became effective on 28 April 2005 to the last trip for Bornholmstrafikken.

In May 2005 the handover to the new owner took place in Landskrona and the name was changed to Eckerö . The ship continued under the Finnish flag with home port Mariehamn . In the same year, the ice class at Remontowa was reinforced and the decks at Baltic Shipping Repairs in Tallinn were rebuilt for the new range of applications. Since February 15, 2006 the Eckerö has been running several times a day on the new route Grisslehamn ↔ Eckerö.

Since January 2009 the ship has been sailing under the Swedish flag with home port Grisslehamn.
