Jerry Murrien de Jong (born August 29, 1964 in Paramaribo ) is a former Surinamese - Dutch football player . He was active for PSV Eindhoven , FC Groningen and MVV Maastricht in the Eredivisie and for SM Caen in the French Division 1 ; three times he was used in the Dutch national team . His son Nigel is also a national soccer player.

Career

society

Jerry de Jong started playing soccer at SDW in Amsterdam . As a teenager he was active at AZ'67 ; Together with Paul Nortan , Fred Patrick and Sigi Lens he formed the De Zwarte Brigade , the "black brigade" of players of Surinamese descent , in the Alkmaar youth team . The profile career of the defender began in 1984 with the second division Telstar , for whom he made 95 games in three and a half seasons, in which he scored eight goals. In the 1987/88 season he moved to league rivals SC Heerenveen , for whom he appeared 50 times (two goals) in the Eerste divisie by the end of the following season . In 1989 PSV from Eindhoven signed him. In his first season in the top division, he was unable to assert himself and only came on three appearances. In the following season he appeared 29 times for PSV; During this time his missions in Orange also fell . In the 1991/92 season, however, he then had to leave his place in the defense to veterans like Eric Gerets and Adri van Tiggelen , who had moved from Anderlecht to PSV. In the 1992/93 season he was loaned to league rivals FC Groningen for six months , where he was used twelve times. In his five years at PSV, he made a total of 54 league appearances and eight European Cup games. He was twice champion with PSV , once a cup winner and once a Supercup winner .

For the 1994/95 season he went to France to SM Caen, but could not establish himself in Division 1 . After only one year, after Caen's relegation, he moved back to the Eerste Divisie at FC Eindhoven . Here he became a regular player in his second season and received an offer from the MVV in which he experienced his "second spring" at the age of 33. In three years he made 90 more games with nine goals in the Eredivisie until Maastricht's relegation. After relegation, he was again active in the Eerste Divisie for MVV for a few months before it came to a head: the MVV fired his team captain after it became known that he wanted to withdraw money with his clubmate Emerson's bank card . Allegedly he had lost his fortune gambling.
