Joachim Arnold (* 1965 in Merzig ) is a German pianist , conductor , producer and entrepreneur .

Life

Joachim Arnold began his piano studies in 1982 as a preparatory student at the Saarland University of Music with Alexander Sellier . From 1985 to 1991 he was trained by Karl-Heinz Kämmerling at the Hanover Music Academy. From 1992 to 1994 he studied music director with Wolf-Dieter Hauschild ( University of Music Karlsruhe ) and with Toshiyuki Kamioka ( Aalto-Theater Essen). In 2007 he completed his studies in cultural management at the University of Zurich with an “Executive Master's in Arts Administration” . Joachim Arnold received two-time scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation (piano and conducting).

Joachim Arnold was married to the actress and author Edda Petri from 1994 to 2019 . The marriage resulted in two sons.

Act

Joachim Arnold pursued a career as a pianist until 1991. He played concerts at home and abroad and was a guest at various broadcasters for radio recordings, including NDR , SR , WDR , Deutschlandfunk and Radio Moscow . During this period there were also recordings, including Beethoven's Piano Sonatas op. 13 and op. 53 and Robert Schumann's Symphonic Etudes . A 1985 live recording of Beethoven's " Hammerklavierersonate " sonata op.106 from the concert hall of the Saar University of Music was broadcast in 2014 as part of a broadcast on SR2 Kulturradio .

An irreparable dystonia ( occupational cramp ) of the 4th finger of his right hand ended his piano career in 1991. Joachim Arnold switched to the Aalto-Theater Essen (1993 to 1995) and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden (1996 to 1997) as a solo repetitor with a conducting obligation . Since then he has worked as a freelance conductor, mainly for opera productions. With the French pianist Patricia Pagny and the Radio Symphony Orchestra Bratislava he played the Mozart piano concertos No. 21 (KV 467 in C major) and No. 22 (KV 482 in E flat major) on record.

In 1999 he founded Musik & Theater Saar GmbH in Merzig. The company runs various festivals initiated by Joachim Arnold even before the GmbH was founded:

In 2001 the “Musik & Theater Saar” in Merzig built the “Zeltpalast Merzig” as its own venue. Concerts ( Dave Brubeck , “The Tiger Lillies”, Ute Lemper ) and other festivals such as “Rock am Bach” take place here. From 2005 to 2007 the "Musik & Theater Saar" also played the "E-Werk Saarbrücken", an industrial culture hall with an area of ​​almost 2000 m².

In the 2006/07 season, Joachim Arnold headed the project “New space structure and pricing” at the Komische Oper Berlin . From 2007 to the beginning of 2011 he was Director for PR and Marketing, Sales and Development at the Zurich Opera House . He also worked on the conception of the program for the designated artistic director of the Zurich Opera House from 2012 onwards.

In 2011 he was artistic director at Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt. On the initiative of the Esterházy Foundation, he designed a new festival. a. René Jacobs and Gidon Kremer participated. As artistic director at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival , he brought out Don Giovanni in 2011 .

Joachim Arnold was a lecturer at the Saar University of Fine Arts and the University of Music and Theater Munich (HMT) as well as a guest speaker at the Vienna University of Economics and the University of Zurich . Between 2014 and 2016 he was deputy opera director at the Wuppertaler Bühnen .
