Jochen Carow (born February 10, 1944 ) is a former German football player in the GDR .

Player career

Via SG Dynamo Hohenschönhausen , the only 20-year-old defender Carow came to the GDR upper division club SC Dynamo Berlin in 1964 , for whom he made his debut in the top division of the GDR in the 1964/65 season and made a total of eight appearances during the season. Berlin only just managed to stay in the league as twelfth in the final table.

In the 1965/66 season Carow was then one of the regular players with 20 appearances for the East Berlin club, with the club's soccer section being separated from the sports club in January 1966 and from then on participating in the league's league operations as the BFC Dynamo soccer club . On May 28, 1966, Carow played an international match with the GDR youth national team. In the encounter between the GDR and the Netherlands (3-1), he was on the field as a central defender. The BFC came after a ninth place in the season 1965/66 in the season 1966/67 in the relegation ranks and finally rose as the penultimate of the final table in the second-rate GDR league . In this Carow contributed in the following season 1967/68 with 21 missions to the immediate resurgence of the BFC.

With final placements in the middle of the table, the BFC established itself in the seasons 1968/69 , 1969/70 and 1970/71 in the league, with Carow in these seasons with a total of 61 appearances was one of the top performers in Berlin's defensive and finally with the club reached the final of the FDGB Cup 1970/71 . Without Carow's participation, the BFC was defeated by Dynamo Dresden 2-1 after extra time. Since Dresden, as champions of the league, took part in the European championship cup in the following season , Berlin qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup despite the defeat in the final .

While Carow then advanced to the semi-finals with Berlin in the 1971/72 cup winners' competition and failed there at the Soviet representative Dynamo Moscow , the GDR runner-up in the 1971/72 league season , in which Carow played 21 games, succeeded.

Through his performances for Berlin Carow had been able to recommend himself for the national team of the GDR , for which he played his only international match on May 31, 1972 in a goalless draw in Rostock against Uruguay . Then national trainer Georg Buschner fell back on the more robust Manfred Zapf as a sweeper . Carow was also part of the provisional 23-man squad for the Summer Olympics in Munich, but ultimately had to stay at home as the only player.

In the 1972/73 UEFA Cup , which was achieved with the vice-championship, Carow reached the second round of a European competition again with Berlin, but his team again only occupied midfield positions in the major league games from 1972/73 to 1974/75 . Carow had only come to eight appearances for the BFC in 1972/73, but was able to achieve his only league goal during his 15 missions in the 1973/74 season . After he had completed six games at the beginning of the season in the league in 1974/75, Carow finally ended his career at FC Dynamo in Berlin, for which he had played 157 appearances in the highest and 21 games in the second-highest division of the GDR.
