Johann Anton von Freund

Johann Anton von Freund (* 1734 in Stettin ; † June 3, 1809 in Neisse ) was a Prussian major general in the engineering corps.

Life

His father Joachim Friedrich von Freund (* 1709; † December 1747) was Prussian Prime Lieutenant in Pioneer Regiment No. 49 .

Military career

Freund joined the engineering corps of the Prussian Army on April 10, 1749 as a conductor . On December 19, 1750 he was promoted to second lieutenant in the engineering corps of fortress Glatz . On October 9, 1752 he was assigned to a group of engineering officers under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel von Wrede. From November 1, 1752, the group was busy creating a map of the Oder up to the Polish border and from Kreuzburg to Züllichau . The work was finished around March 1753. During the Seven Years' War Freund was in the battles of Prague , Kolin , Breslau , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Hochkirch and Liegnitz . He also took part in the battle at Moys , as well as the sieges of Prague, Breslau, Schweidnitz , Olomouc and Dresden. On October 13, 1762, he was appointed captain of engineers for the Neisse fortress . On February 11, 1775 he was transferred to Glogau . On December 24, 1777 he became major and head of fortress construction in Gaudenz . When mobilizing on April 4, 1778, he first came back to Neisse and then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession .

On April 23, 1786 Freund was transferred to Küstrin and promoted to lieutenant colonel on June 15, 1787 with a patent from June 16, 1787. In 1790 he came to Silesia as a brigadier and rose to colonel on May 21, 1791 . On February 17, 1793, he presented King Friedrich Wilhelm II with an important map of Silesia. This was so good that it was ordered to be put in the planning chamber . On April 20, 1793 Freund was transferred to Czenstochau . On June 24, 1794 he joined General Lattorff's corps and later Ruits' corps . With these he took part in the campaign in Poland in 1794/95 . On December 31, 1796 he received an allowance of 400 thalers and on May 20, 1798 he was promoted to major general. On October 8, 1804 he resigned with a pension of 1000 thalers. He died on June 3, 1809 in Neisse.

Freund married Beate Henriette von Roeder (April 12, 1750 - November 12, 1790) from the House of Guhrau on February 9, 1772 in Neisse.
