Johann de Clapier Colongue ( Russian Иван (Иоганн) Александрович Деколонг (Клапье-де-Колонг) ; born 2 November . Jul / 13. November  1719 greg. , † February 4 jul. / 15. February  1789 greg. In Ontika ) was a Russian lieutenant general and governor general of Siberia .

Life

Origin and family

Johann was a member of the Baltic noble family Clapier de Colongue . He was the fourth son of Alexander Clapier de Colongue (1685-1743) and his wife Anna Sophie, née von Caden († 1741). His father was a French captain and came to Russia in 1712. There he rose in the tsarist army to lieutenant general of engineers and was knight of the Alexander Nevsky Order . The Prussian infantry general Jakob von Colong (1724-1806) was his brother. Like him, Johann remained unmarried.

Military career

Colongue began his officer career in the Imperial Russian Army in 1733 with the Engineer Corps . In 1738 he became an ensign and took part in the Turkish War. He fought in the Battle of Stavutschan and was involved in the conquest of Chotyn and Jassy . After that he found employment as a military engineer in various fortresses. Before the outbreak of the Seven Years' War he was with the General Staff . During the war he was promoted to engineer captain in 1755 , colonel and commander of the Nevsky infantry regiment in 1759 and major general in 1763 . He had at the Battle of Egersdorf, 1758, among others, 1757 Battle of anger village and in 1761 the conquest of Berlin participated.

He was assigned to the Siberian Corps and was promoted to lieutenant general in 1771. In the suppression of the Pugachev uprising , he played a prominent role. On June 28, 1777 Colongue received his farewell and retired to his estate Ontika, which he had made a majorate in 1783 .
