Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Frey (born February 20, 1804 in Zossen ; † April 15, 1879 Koblenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Frey was a son of the forester Friedrich Wilhelm Frey and Henriette Sophie, née Heinrich. His marriage to Henriette Karoline Johanna Juliane Waldmann (1818–1889), natural daughter of Karl Gottlob Waldmann, sergeant in the 5th foot company of the 3rd Artillery Brigade, had no children.

Military career

Frey attended high school in Dessau from 1817 and began to prepare for a degree in construction in 1820, still took private lessons in 1823, but then joined the 3rd Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a volunteer gunner in 1824 . From 1828 to 1830 he was assigned to the artillery and engineering school and advanced to portepeef ensign in 1828 and second lieutenant in the 8th artillery brigade in 1831 . In 1840 he was assigned to the trade institute and in 1842 to the main artillery workshop in Berlin . He was aggregated in 1844 as a first lieutenant of the 4th Artillery Brigade and assigned to the Fireworks Department. Since 1846 he was assistant director of the powder factory in Neisse , rose in 1850 to captain and head of the craftsman company in the 5th artillery regiment, but was at the same time head of the main artillery workshop in Neisse. Leaving this position in place, he was placed à la suite of the 5th Artillery Regiment in 1856 , and in 1857 he was assigned. As an adjutant , he was also commanded to inspect the technical institutes of the artillery.
