The ship was built in 1963/1964 under construction number 675 at the JG Hitzler shipyard and machine factory in Lauenburg / Elbe for the former Hamburg water and shipping directorate. The launching of the ship took place on February 25, instead of the handover in July 1964th

The ship was subordinated to the then waterways and shipping authority as a replacement for the 72-year-old sea sign steamer Elbe and used to maintain the fairway buoys on the Lower Elbe .

After Otto Treplin , who was stationed at the Hamburg Waterways and Shipping Office, was decommissioned , the navigation sign processing on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein and in the area of the Hamburg Waterways and Shipping Office on the Lower Elbe was carried out by the buoy layers of the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Office, Johann Georg Repsold and the Triton performed.

The ship was found and 17 November 2011 out of service on 6 February 2012 after Rendsburg transferred, where it first in the harbor of the building yard of Rendsburg Water and Shipping Office Holtenau launched was. In April 2012, VEBEG sold it to the Bremerhaven-based company Innoven for around 100,000 euros . The ship Amrumbank was procured as a successor .

The ship was named after the Hamburg syringe master and precision mechanic Johann Georg Repsold .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is propelled by two MAN diesel engines with an output of 257  kW each , which act on two Voith-Schneider propellers . The auxiliary diesel from Volvo Penta has an output of 92 kW. A total of five generators are installed for the power supply on board : two AEG generators with an output of 65 kW each, two AEG generators with an output of 29 kW each and a still generator with an output of 34 kW.

There are eight cabins on board for a maximum of 14 people.

Whereabouts of the ship

Johann Georg Repsold shortly before the sale in the Rendsburg building yard

The new owner of the ship, the Bremerhaven-based company Innoven, founded in 2011, which offers engineering services in the fields of wind and renewable energy as well as shipbuilding and ship operation technology, had the ship transferred from Rendsburg to Bremerhaven, where it was converted into a test ship for energy optimization in the fishing port . The new name of the ship is LEV Taifun , where LEV stands for lowest emission vessel . The ship is used as a vehicle for offshore wind turbines and - in the summer season - as a transport ship for tourists who want to visit the Roter Sand lighthouse . Occasionally it is used again as a buoy laying crane.
