The Triton is a buoy laying ship for the Federal Republic of Germany.

history

The ship commissioned by the Mechanical Engineering Department was built in 1996/1997. The hull was built under construction number 100/1 at the Remontowa shipyard in Gdansk , Poland . The keel was laid on June 28th, the launch on August 14th, 1996. The ship was equipped with hull number 517 at the Maaskant shipyard in Stellendam, the Netherlands. The ship was completed in June 1997. It is named after the god of the sea from Greek mythology .

commitment

The ship used by the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Authority was put into service in 1997. It replaced the buoy tender Barsemeister Brehme built in 1960 at the Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven . One of the main tasks of the ship is the laying out, retrieval and control of navigation marks in the official area of ​​the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Office off the west coast of Schleswig-Holstein , but also across departments on the Lower Elbe to Wedel . The ship can also be used for traffic safety tasks , to rescue obstacles and as an auxiliary ship in the event of an accident .

Technical data and equipment

The ship is propelled by an eight - cylinder four - stroke diesel engine made by MTU Friedrichshafen (type: 8 V 396) with an output of 740  kW . The engine acts via a gearbox on a fixed propeller, which is equipped with a Kort nozzle . It can reach a speed of up to 12  knots .

Three generators with apparent powers of 535 kVA, 200 kVA and 90 kVA are available for the power supply. In the bow of the ship there is a cross- jet steering system designed as a water jet drive .

The ship has an open working deck in front of the aft deck structure . A hydraulic crane with a capacity of 9 t and an outreach of 7 m is available for launching and retrieving floating sea marks.
