Johann Georg Specht
Johann Georg Specht (born December 20, 1721 in Lindenberg im Allgäu ; † December 30, 1803 ) was a late Baroque builder and belonged to the so-called Vorarlberg Building School or the masters of the Vorarlberg cathedral scheme .
Life
He learned his trade from the Vorarlberg master builder Peter Thumb (see Birnau pilgrimage church ).
Specht planned and built a large number of structures in the Allgäu and Upper Swabia. This also includes waterworks, bridges, mills, residential and economic buildings as well as castles and churches.
He found his main work in 1771 in the Wiblingen monastery church of St. Martin , which he planned and began, but was not allowed to finish. The Bavarian master builder, painter and later court painter to the Electorate of Trier, Januarius Zick , had already earned the client's trust before 1783 and achieved that he himself was commissioned with the further construction and Specht was dismissed.
Honors
The Baumeister-Specht-Straße was named after him in his hometown of Lindenberg in the Allgäu.
