Johann Mayr (theologian)

Johann Mayr (born May 20, 1923 in Kurtatsch ; † January 2, 2017 in Brixen ) was a South Tyrolean theologian and Roman Catholic clergyman .

Life

Mayr was born on a farm in Kurtatsch. After primary school he first attended the Johanneum in Dorf Tirol near Meran . In 1940 he moved with his Optanten family to North Tyrol , where he switched to the Realgymnasium in Stams . After three years as a soldier and in captivity , he entered the Trento seminary in 1945 . There he was ordained a priest on June 29, 1949 after completing his training . Then he was a cooperator in Girlan and from 1950 to 1952 prefect at the Johanneum. Between 1952 and 1957 he worked as a cooperator in Neumarkt and Klausen . From 1957 Mayr studied theology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . In 1963 he was in the dogmatists Michael Schmaus to Dr. theol. PhD . He then worked as an editor for the daily newspaper Dolomiten in Bozen .

From 1964 to 1975 Mayr Regens was at the seminary in Brixen , from 1964 to 1993 professor for liturgical science at the Philosophical-Theological University there . In 1975 he was appointed canon and member of the cathedral chapter at Brixner Cathedral . In 1998 he retired.

Mayr published some books.
