Johann Sigismund Krohn , from 1796 von Krohn , (born June 18, 1759 in Potsdam , † August 4, 1834 in Gruppe bei Graudenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Johann was a son of the head forestry master of Potsdam Heinrich Krohn (1720–1780) and his wife Anna Marie, née Sanne.

Military career

Krohn received his school education at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Berlin and in 1779 was a conductor at the Kurmärkische Kammer . On July 27, 1780, he was second lieutenant in the mine corps in Glatz and on July 8, 1789, prime lieutenant in Graudenz. Nobilized on November 4, 1796, he was promoted to staff captain on September 6, 1797 . On May 28, 1800 he got command of three engineer companies, which corresponded to the position of a battalion commander . On March 1, 1803, he became captain and company commander in the engineering corps in Schweidnitz . A month later he was transferred to Graudenz, took part in the defense of the city during the Fourth Coalition War and rose to major in mid-January 1807 .

After the war he was transferred to the engineer corps in Berlin on February 12, 1810 , to work on its reorganization during the reforms under Scharnhorst . After that he was commander of the 3rd Engineer Company from February 19, 1811 . In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation , he became the commander of the Pioneer Company in Neisse on January 20, 1813 , and was promoted to colonel by early June 1815 .

After the war, on April 19, 1816, for the reorganization of the pioneers, he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class on a white ribbon . To this end, on April 20, 1816, he was appointed brigadier of all pioneer departments, as well as the management of the guards pioneer department . On April 3, 1820, Krohn was given the character of major general and he was granted a pension of 1000 thalers to leave . In mid-January 1822 he received a gift of 200 thalers. He died on August 4, 1834 in Gruppe bei Graudenz and was buried there on August 7, 1834.

In his assessment from the year 1804 by General von der Lahr , it is said: “Of a good, love-loving performance and pleasing behavior. Has knowledge of fortification and civil engineering, especially a lot of tactical economic geometry. Has been employed for the survey in South Prussia for 6 years. "

family

In 1790 he married Henriette Lambert (1757–1842), from whom he later divorced. The couple had the following children:
