John Erskine (* 26. June 1980 in Kingston , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player , who during his playing career from 1997 to 2014 among other 530 games for the Dallas Stars , New York Islanders and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League on contested the position of defender .

Career

The 1.93 m tall defender began his career with the London Knights in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League before he was selected in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft as 39th in the second round by the Dallas Stars .

First, the left-handed shooter, who won the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the best defender of the OHL in 2000, played with the Utah Grizzlies of the International Hockey League - or later American Hockey League - farm team of the stars, in the 2001/02 season Erskine finally gave his NHL- Debut for Dallas.

During the 2005/06 season , John Erskine was transferred to the New York Islanders in exchange for Finnish defender Janne Niinimaa , who did not renew his contract after a year, so he could be signed on September 14, 2006 as a free agent by the Washington Capitals . After a foot fracture, the Canadian was also used by the capital city in the AHL with the Hershey Bears , but was later back on the NHL regulars. After missing the 2014/15 season completely due to a neck injury, his contract was not renewed after the end of the season. Eventually he retired from active sports.
