John Oddo

John Oddo (* 1953 ; † April 2, 2019 ) was an American jazz musician ( piano , keyboard , synthesizer , arrangement , composition ).

Live and act

Oddo studied at California State University , with whose ensemble the first recordings were made in 1978; he then obtained a Masters in Jazz Studies from the Eastman School of Music . In the early 1980s he worked as a musician and composer with Woody Herman and His Orchestra , appearing on albums such as Live at Concord Jazz Festival (1981). From 1983 Oddo worked for 18 years mainly as a musician, arranger and musical director for Rosemary Clooney ; He also played with Ed Bickert , Michael Feinstein and Gary Foster , as well as Tony Bennett , Ray Charles , Joe Williams , Stan Getz , Bob Hope , Maureen McGovern , John Pizzarelli , Diane Schuur , Toni Tennille and Linda Ronstadt in the 2000s with the singer Linda Eder.

In the field of jazz, Oddo was involved in 33 recording sessions between 1978 and 2014. As a musical director, arranger and pianist, Oddo has also worked with Debby Boone , Christine Ebersole , Melissa Errico , Barbara Cook , Cheyenne Jackson , Maureen McGovern , David Hyde Pierce and James Naughton ; in other projects he worked as a composer and performer for the stationery program Showtime Our Town , directed by James Naughton, a. a. with Paul Newman , as well as conductor, pianist and arranger of the NBC special Scott Hamilton & Friends . He also appeared for four presidents in the White House.
