Jonathan Dahlén (* 20th December 1997 in Östersund ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who since February 2019 with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League has a contract on loan in his home at since August 2019 Timrå IK on the position of left winger plays . His father Ulf Dahlén was also a professional ice hockey player and is a member of the Swedish ice hockey hall of fame .

Career

Dahlén learned to play ice hockey at Östersunds IK , the club from his hometown Östersund . He then moved to the youth department of HV71 from Jönköping , where he was used in the U16 and U18 teams of the club from the 2012/13 season. During the 2013/14 season he made his debut as a 17-year-old in the U20 team, with whom he secured the Swedish U20 Junior Championship in the J20 SuperElit at the end of the season . As a result, the attacker switched to Timrå IK . There he spent most of the 2014/15 season also in the U18 and U20 teams of the club, but he also made his debut in the professional team, which was based in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second highest Swedish division. He finished the season of the J20 SuperElit as the best point player under the age of 18.

For the 2015/16 season , Dahlén was Timrås regular and scored more than 30 points in over 50 games over the course of the season . He was then selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 2016 in 42nd place by the Ottawa Senators from the National Hockey League . In the following season, the striker established himself in the Allsvenskan. At the end of the season, he led all players still eligible to play for the juniors by goals and points, which finally brought him the award of the Guldgallret for the best junior player in the Allsvenskan. His transfer rights had been transferred to the Vancouver Canucks during the season from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Alex Burrows . This took him a little later with an entry contract for the following three seasons under contract. Before the start of the 2017/18 season , the Canucks loaned the Swedes to Timrå for further development, so that he could spend another year there. Dahlén led the team with 58 points in 54 missions to win the championship and promotion to the Svenska Hockeyligan . He himself was named the most valuable player and best striker in the league. In addition, he received the Rinkens riddare for his fair and athletic behavior .

After the end of the season in Europe, the Canucks ended the loan deal and ordered the junior player to join their farm team , the Utica Comets , from the American Hockey League . There he made his debut on the American continent at the end of the 2017/18 season . After he had a very difficult time in the service of the Comets in the course of the 2018/19 season until February and could not build on the previous year's performance, the Canucks and his advisor agreed on a transfer. In exchange for the transfer rights to his compatriot Linus Karlsson , Dahlén moved to the San Jose Sharks in February 2019 , where he was initially used in the San Jose Barracuda farm team in the AHL. The following summer, Dahlén was awarded to his training club Timrå IK for the 2019/20 season.

International

For his home country, Dahlén took part in the junior division at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2014 as well as the U18 World Junior Championship in 2015 in Switzerland and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2017 in Canada . At the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament, the striker was with five scorer points, including four goals, the best-scoring and most dangerous player in his team, which ultimately finished fourth. He scored just as many points a year later in the U18 World Junior Championship, which ended in a disappointing eighth place. At the U20 Junior World Championship, Dahlén achieved six points in seven appearances. Again, the team took fourth place, which the attacker's five goals didn't change. He scored one of them in the game for third place, which the Swedes lost 2-1 after extra time against Russia .
