The Gmina wiejska Jordanów is a rural municipality in the powiat Suski in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship , Poland . The seat is the city of Jordanów , which does not belong to the municipality. The Gmina has an area of ​​92.6 km² and 11,172 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).

The municipality is located about forty kilometers south of Krakow on the Skawa River at the foot of the Beskid Makowski , part of the Beskydy Mountains . 53% of its area is used for agriculture and 41% is covered with forest. The Gmina borders on the rural communities of Bystra-Sidzina , Lubień , Maków Podhalański , Raba Wyżna , Spytkowice , Tokarnia and the district town of Jordanów .

history

The city of Jordanów was founded in 1564 by Spytek Jordan . As an important trading center, the region soon became its own county and came into the possession of the noble family of Trąby , who called themselves Count Jordanowski.

From 1975 to 1998 Gmina was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship .
