Jorge Ardila Serrano (born September 17, 1925 in Zapatoca , Santander , Colombia ; † October 12, 2010 in Bogotá , Colombia) was Bishop of Girardot .

Life

Jorge Ardila Serrano studied after attending the Colegio Santo Tomas and the Seminario Mayor de San Gil (1936-1941) philosophy and theology at the seminary of San Gil (1942-1944) and at the seminary of Bogotá (1944-1948). Ardila Serrano was ordained a priest in San Gil on October 17, 1948 by Archbishop Angel Maria Ocampo Berrio , Bishop of Socorro and San Gil . From 1952 to 1953 he studied pedagogy and spirituality at the La Solitude seminar in Saint-Sulpice, Paris. From 1953 to 1954 he completed a licentiate degree in dogmatic theology at the Gregoriana in Rome and from 1954 to 1956 a bachelor's degree in biblical studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and from 1956 to 1957 a pastoral study at the Catholic Faculty in Lille, France.

He was initially active in pastoral care in San Gil as well as chaplain of the Capellán del Colegio de Varones and assistant to the Catholic Action in the diocese. From 1958 to 1969 he was professor, spiritual and spiritual director and rector of the San Gil seminary.

In 1969 he became director of the Department of Faith and Morals of the Colombian Bishops' Conference . He was also chaplain of the Colegio del Pilar . From 1971 to 1980 Jorge Ardila Serrano was Secretary General of the Colombian Bishops' Conference. On November 15, 1975 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed monsignor .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Tisedi on 1980 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Bogotá . He was ordained bishop on November 30, 1980 by the Archbishop of Bogotá , Cardinal Aníbal Muñoz Duque ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Angelo Acerbi , Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, and Mario Revollo Bravo , Archbishop of Nueva Pamplona . From 1981 to 1988 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. From 1982 to 1984 he was president of the ecclesiastical court for the beatification process of Ismael Perdomo , Archbishop of Bogotá.

In 1988 he was appointed fifth bishop of the Girardot diocese . On June 15, 2001, Pope John Paul II granted his resignation.

Bishop Ardila Serrano was buried in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Catedral Inmaculado Corazón de María) of the Diocese of Girardot.
