Jorge Hernández

Jorge Hernández (born November 17, 1954 - December 12, 2019 ) was a Cuban boxer .

Career

He became world champion in light flyweight in 1974 at the amateur world championship in Havana , where he was able to defeat the reigning Olympic champion György Gedó . After he was able to prevail in the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975 , he qualified for participation in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where he won the gold medal in his weight class.

At the World Championships in Belgrade in 1978 , he finished second, where he lost to Kenyan Stephen Muchoki , whom he had defeated in the final four years earlier. He then switched to flyweight, but had little success in this weight class. So he lost in the Pan American Games in 1979 in San Juan in the quarter-finals. In 1980 he played his second Olympic Games in Moscow , but was eliminated in his first preliminary round fight.
